SHOT TUI AND NATIVE PIGEONS
♦ A FISHERMAN FINED (.mESS ASSOCIATION IELEGK.'.i!.; INVERCARGILL, October 5. A plucked tui with a bullet mark ia its breast and a dead weka were ex* hibited in the Bluff Magistrate's Court to-day, when Cyril Joseph Hanning, a Stewart Island fisherman, was charged on three counts, that he shot native. pigeons, a tui, and a weka; also that he was in possession of an unregistered firearm. On the defendant pleading guilty t(» the charges of shooting pigeons and the tui, the charge of shooting a wek* was withdrawn. Defendant was fined £5 in each case* and ordered to pay costs and expense* totalling £9 7s Bd. On the charge of I possessing an unregistered firearm the, defendant pleaded guilty and was o» dered to forfeit the rifle and pay costit 10s.
