Instances of magpie-bitten children, harried native birds, the impossibility of using carrier pigeons, some of which were occasionally destroyed and generally chased, and the destruction not only of other birds' eggs, but fit their young ones, by magpies were given at the acclimatisation societies' conference at Wellington, and the following resolution was carried:—That owing to the many authenticated reports of the destruction by magpies of native and imported birds, the Minister for Internal Affairs be requested to remove the protection from them at the request of any acclimatisation society.
