THE WEATHER Yesterday was warm and pleasant, with sunshine and an absence of wind in the morning. During the afternoon there was a light west-south-west wind. The maximum temperature recorded was 56 degrees. There was a cloudy atmosphere in the city early this morning. I 1 l.'-"J In Other Centres Auckland—There was a continuation of fine weather yesterday, but the sky was cloudy and threatening after midday. A light breeze blew all day from the west. The barometer was falling until late in the afternoon, when it steadied at 30.2. Wellington—Strong and gusty northwesterly winds blew throughout the day, reaching a velocity of 40 miles an hour. The weather was dull and threatening. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 53.9 degrees, the maximum for the day being 55.4 degrees. Dunedin —There was a continuation of fine weather yesterday, but conditions were again cloudy. A light south-west wind was blowing, and the maximum temperature was 54 degrees. FORECAST (From readings taken at 4 p.m.) General Situation —A westerly depression was crossing the Dominion
to-day, while an internal anti-cyclone was moving on to south-eastern Australia. Winds—Moderate to strong torthwesterly to westerly, reaching gale force in places, and backing to southerly soon in the far south; southerlies extending over the Dominion within the next 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough on the West Coast about Cook and Foveaux straits; elsewhere moderate, .later rising south of Casllepoint. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong westerly winds, backing to southerlies; seas rough. Weather—Cloudy and unsettled, with rain in most districts and some snow on the- high country of the South Island.
