THEFT FROM HOTEL

♦ Gaining entrance through a transom which had been left open, thieves opened the private bar of the Mitre Hotel at Lyttelton between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. yesterday and stole a quantity of liquor, cigarettes, tobacco, and money. A housemaid at 7 a.m. yesterday discovered the bar door open, and also that the door leading on to the street was unlatched. The licensee, Mr L. Denton, locked the door as usual the previous night.
