♦ RAIN DELAYS SHIPPING Heavy rain fell at Lyttelton during Friday night and Saturday until the afternoon, when the weather cleared. The rain stopped all work on the waterfront for the day, with the- exception of the Rangatira and the loading of meat into the Port Fairy. These two vessels were the only ones to take their departure, the sailing of the Waipiata, Tees, and Port Whangarei i being postponed until to-day. Hockey Club Dance The Excelsior Hall was crowded with a gay throng of dancers on Saturday evening on the occasion of the annual dance of the Lyttelton Ladies' Hockey Club, the attendance being nearly 250. The dance was successful in every way, the committee responsible for .the arrangements being Misses Olga Sergison, C. Loader, D. Beaumont, I. Beaumont, Gladys Bennetts, Florence Ramon, N. Napier, Ngaire Watkins, Kathleen Griffiths, and Edna. Ayers. Music was provided by the Herdman-Fisk orchestra, extras being played by Miss Marewa Manihera.
