HIGH LEVEL FLYING

PLANS FOR CENTENAKY RACE (Received August 17, 8.40 p.m.) LONDON. August 17. Mrs Amy Mollison, in an article in the "Daily Mail," says: "Mr Wiley Post is busily preparing his aeroplane, the Winnie Mae, for experimental stratosphere flights. He intends to attempt a new world altitude record, and also a high altitude flight across America. "If he is successful he will adopt the same method in the Melbourne Centenary race, with the object of completing the journey in two days. Nevertheless, even if he realises his dreams of achieving a speed of 350 miles an hour at a height of 40,000 feet, he will still need to calculate carefully the time required for climbing, to ascertain whether the extra speed will compensate for it, especially on the shorter hops."
