American Programme j For Year j i i RISE IN MATERIAL AND LABOUR COSTS (cunxn J'Jizss association— by elhcijuo TELBtfKAI'U—COI'YIUGUT.) (Received August 16, 11.40 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 15. The Navy Department to-day called for tenders for 12 vessels, half of the 1934-35 building programme. The remainder will be constructed in Government navy yards. It is estimated that the cost of two 10,000-ton cruisers, two heavy and five light destroyer, and three submarines, will aggregate 72,000,000 dollars, which is almost a third more than was originally expected, because of the rise in material and labour costs. The entire programme for the year will cost about 150,000,000 dollars.
