j j (ONCEUT AND EXHIBITION OF ; WORK i 1 The Cathedral Grammar School's j Mymnasium wcs filled to capacity by I parents and friends of the school last I evening, when the pupils gave their I winter term concert. Both young and older nupils contributed to the procrammt, which was varied and wellchosen. As might be expected at a ; Cathedral Grammar School concert the ; singing was the outstanding feature, I and the school orchestra contributed i lo the .success of the mUScal Bide of j the- programme. I Before the concert an exhibition or school handcraft was open to the public, and the wide variety of articles constructed in the workshops was meatly admired. These ranged from an accurate electric clock to a wooden hobby-horse. The carpentry section included beautifully finished desks and ; cabinets, and in the model section there were manv ingenious working exhibits, i The concert opened with selecj tions by the school orchestra, "Salaam i Greeting" (Long), and the intermezzo | from "Cavalleria Rusticana" (Maacag- ; ni>. "On Wings of Song" fMendel*I sohn) was beautifully sung by the [ school choir, and choir and orchestra j combined in a Finnish melody "The 1 Watcher." An amusing one-act play, ' "Jiorv Aforesaid." was followed by J two numbers by the Cathedral Choristers, "May Dew" 'Sterndalc Bennett), | and "In Praise of May" (John Ireland). The remaining iternr. were a Shakespearean plnv. "The Seven Ages of Man." a sha'dow show by the junior pupils, and an excellent gymnastic ! display.
