WEST COAST SOCIETY (SI'KCIAI. TO THE rftSSfl.) GREYMOUTH, August 1(3. The twenty-seventh annual festival of the West Coast Competitions Society commenced this evening at Greymouth will run for a week. It was officially opened by the Mayor, Mr J. W. Greenslado, and the president, Mr M. Keating, welcomed the judges, Messrs J. K. Lester (Christchurch) elocution, W. Meldrum oratory, W. H. Dixon (Christchurch) music, and Mrs R. Trlggs (Tirnaru) dancing. The entries are a record, for the society. Results completed were:— Chief Piano Solo (I) Miss Valerie Nightingale (Hokitika), 164 points, 2. Junior Choir—Miss Nellfe McDonnell's A choir, 80 points, 1; Miss A. Bush's junior, girls, 79 points, 2. Choir Contest (adults)— Madame Bella Russell's B choir, 167 points, 1; Madame Russell's A choir, 164 points, 2.
