JUSTICES OF THE PEACE ASSOCIATION
MEETING Or COUNCIL The monlilrly meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Justices of the Peace Association was presided over by Mr A. H. Hobbs, who extended to Mr H. F. Herbert a welcome on his return from a visit to Australia. In replying, Mr Herbert referred to the hospitality extended to him by justices in Melbourne, where he had been asked to take a seat on the bench. The association there had its own rooms, equipped with a fine library and legal literature. This matter was particularly interesting in view of the negotiations pending on similar linos in Christcburch. The Adelaide Association conveyed paternal greetings, and suggested a visit of bowlers to Australia during the Melbourne Centenary celebrations. Tin's was referred to the federation. Mr A. E. Jones was admitted to members!' p of the association. Mr J. J. Harley was congratulated on his re-election as member of the Education Board. A proposal to hold a court of instruction for justices, was approved, and a committee was set up to make arrangements.
