A case in which a regulation given by the Prime Minister two years ago appeared to have been overlooked by the Labour Department was brought before the executive of the Dunedin Keturned Soldiers' Association at a recent meeting, when the secretary (Mr O. L. Ferens) reported that a returned soldier in receipt of a war disability pension had been refused work on that account. Two years ago, Mr Ferens said, the Prime Minister had laid it down that the first 17s 6d of any war disability pension was not to be regarded as income in respect of the No. 5 scheme, and the pension of the man in question camQ to less than 17s 6d a week. Nevertheless, he had been refused work, and a protest had been made to the Department by the association, with the result that the matter had been "jeferred to Wellington."
