Under the will of William Elliot, of Auckland, who died at Townsville, Queensland, several charitable organisations in and about the city will benefit from the trust he has created. The estate is a very large one, the value of which has not been determined. From the estate a sum of £7250 is to be set aside, and the income from this is to be divided into 29 equal parts, and paid over proportionately to organisations named. Four parts are to go to each of the following:—St. Mary's Homes, Otahuhu; Presbyterian Church Home, Onchunga; the New Zealand Institute for the Blind, the City Mission, the Door of Hope Mission, the Manurewa Children's Home, and Sister Esther. The re-' maining one part is allotted to the Newmarket Kindergarten. From his collection of paintings Mr Elliot has bequeathed three works to the city council, including "A Pastoral Scene," by Richard Ansdall, R.A. The picture was exhibited in the Royal Academy in 18CG.
