LINWOOD AVENUE SCHOOL COMMITTEE
♦ The usual monthly meeting was held this week, those present being: Messrs T. Nuttall (chairman), H. Butterfleld M. Bugg, R. D. Brown (treasurer), J Ives (secretary), J. Earl, H. Kay, R McPherson, and G. N. Ormandy (headindstcr)« The headmaster reported a roll number of 572, bringing the numbers within the limit desired by the -Education Board. The voluntary contributions to the dental clinic totalled £ls 2s 9d, a great improvement over previous years, but not nearly sufficient to cover the cost of the clinic to the committee. The meeting decided to thank the reserves department of the City Council for its generosity in planting a row of silver beeches in the school grounds. It was decided that a letter of congratulations be sent to Mr L. J. McDonald, a former secretary of the committee, on being elected to the Wellington Education Board. The Canterbury Education Board, it was stated, had presented the school with a certificate of merit for excellence of environment, which had been suitably coloured and framed, and hung in the school. | Considerable disappointment was j expressed at the failure of the board to subsidise an offer of financial assistance towards the erection of an assembly hall. It was decided to take further steps to secure the building The school grounds, it was reported, already showed the effects of the withdrawal of the relief workers, and the committee would be put to extra expense in order to maintain the gardens in keeping with the dignity of the school.
