Exceptionally heavy fire losses in Great Britain and Ireland last month were to a large extent attributable to the dry weather and the water shortage. Serious outbreaks are estimated to have involved losses of £735,400, and when the cost of minor outbreaks is added the total fire losses for the month will probably exceed ,C 1,177,000.
