ADULTERATION OF FOOD
AMAZING CASES IN BRITAIN (Received August 9, 9.40 p.m.) LONDON, August 9. Extraordinary details of food adulteration are given in the annual report of the Ministry of Health, which says that 31,000 samples of miscellaneous foods were analysed during the year. The resultant discoveries included yeast containing arsenic, cider, dried pears and canned beans containing copper, chicken and ham paste containing lead, spiced beef and tongue containing tin, "concentrated limejuice" consisting of a flavoured solution of citric acid with glycerine, while some soda-water enliroly lacked sodium hi-carbonate.
