EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION

SIX MEMBERS RETIRING Six members of the Canterbury Education Board will retire from office on August 8, and an election to fill the vacancies will be held on July 18. The six members who will retire are: Messrs R. Wild (North-west ward), W. A. Banks (Middle Ward), S. Smith (South Ward), S. R. Evison and J. J. Hurley (Christchurch urban area), and J. W. Preen (Timaru urban area). Messrs Wild, Banks, Smith, Hurley, and Preen wi;l seek re-election, but Mr Evison will not contest the poll. Nominations will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, five having been received so far.
