PRACTICAL WORK

TECHNICAL STUDENTS VISIT FAKMS

To give them a practical knowledge of the different types of farming, third year agricultural students at the Christchurch Technical College are being sent out in groups to dairy, fruit, poultry and sheep farms, and are also receiving instruction in horticulture in- the reserves of the City Council and the Domains Board. The principal of the college, Dr. D. E. Hansen, said yesterday that it was hoped that after seeing the different types of farming the students would be able to decide what particular branch they would ultimately adopt. They would be able to understand what was involved in any particular branch. The students were divided into groups, and each group went in turn to a different farm. The groups went out according to circumstances and the time of the year. It was hoped that soon they would be able to see the incubation of eggs on a poultry farm and to see spraying and pruning as carried out oil a commercial orchard. Although they were out all day they remained students of the college, and between visits were doing ordinary work.
