GIFTS TO SUMMIT ROAD TRUST

MR GEORGE HUMPHREYS'S GENEROSITY APPRECIATION EXPRESSED Appreciation of the assistance of Mr George Humphreys to the Port HillsAkaroa Summit Road Public Trust was expressed at a meeting of the trust on Tuesday. Mr Humphreys, who was a .foundation member, gave generously 1 curing his life, and left £SOO to the trust, under his will. The trust carried the following resolution: — •Tn acknowledging the receipt of a letter conveying the information that the late Mr George Humphreys had left the magnificent sum of £SOO for the development of the Summit road scheme, this trust wishes to place on record its appreciation of the generous help always accorded by Mr Humphreys towards the Summit read work. This gives the trust especial pleasure as Mr Humphreys was one of the foundation members, in 1905, of the Summit road scheme, and contributed towards the cost of the formation of the roads and pathways under the control of the trust. He also gave generously towards the purchase of; Cracroft Hill, and a handsome dona- i tion towards the building of the Sign ; of the Takahe. His former gift of : £SOO induced the Government to pro- • ceed with the completion of the Sum- [ m:t road between Evans' Pass and I Mount Pleasant, one of the most beau-; tiful sections of the road, with which i his name wiP always be associated." ;
