TRIBUTES FROM BENCH AND BAR
LATE MR J. C. STEPHENS
(FBBSS ASSOCIATION 'XKLEQIUM.) DUNEDIN, .April 23. Tributes to the late Mr J. C. Stephens were paid at a large gathering of members of the Bar in the Supreme Court this morning, before his; Honour Mr Justice Kennedy. The president of the Law Society said that Mr Stephens was one of the oldesh and most esteemed members, being admitted in 1882. His Honour said that in a long professional life Mr Stephens had been closely associated as a younger contemporary with members of the Bar who ultimately came to sit on the Bench, and it was that association which determined the direction of his Jater studies. Tic was glad to think that some of the results of his experience and the fruits of his industry had been permanently preserved in a book which bore his name.
