WAIMAIRI COUNTY COUNCIL
APPLICATION TO HAVE ROADS SEALED
At the ordinary meeting of the Waimairi County Council, hclcl last evening, it was decided to apply to the Main Highways Board to have the Waimakariri road and Russley road scaled. Both these roads are secondary highways. Tt was also decided to apply to the board to have a number of other roads in the county declared secondary highways. Tnc council agreed to apply to the department in charge of the Northcote Settlement to have a road in the north of the area metalled. It was stated by a councillor that when the settlement was formed a promise had been made to the county that the authorities would have the road metalled. A report before the council indicated that the Advance Northcote Association had decided on certain alterations which will be necessary to the house in the Northcote settlement, which has been given to the association for use as a social hall. The main structural alteration will be the removal of the door to another side of the building. The council adopted a recommendation that permission be given to the Eyre County Council to reconstruct the Waimakariri Ford bridge, on the understanding that the Waimairi Council should accept no liability. The Burwood Progress Association wrote asking that attention be given to the tar-sealing of portion of Lake Terrace road, and to an overhanging fenco on a footpath in the district. The letter also asked that the men on the No. 5 scheme be employed in the improvement of an additional portion of the river bank in Burwood and that an additional lamp be placed in Queensbury street. The council's inspector was asked to deal with the overhanging fence, and the other requests were referred to the chairman representing the riding for a report.
