CITY FINANCES

SATISFACTORY REPORT EXPENDITURE AND REVENUE BETTER THAN ESTIMATED The statement on finances of the Christchureh City Council made by the chairman of the finance committee, Cr. J. K. Archer, to the meeting of the council last night, showed that to March 31 expenditure was less than anticipated by £4917, and revenue more than anticipated by £3501. Cr. Archer quoted the following figures for expenditure up to March 31:—

Cr. Archer stated that the figures indicated that the financial position of the general account was better than was estimated by approximately £8419 7s, though that figure was subject to alteration by reason of allowances and transfers, the amounts of which were not yet obtainable. Cr. E. R. McCombs congratulated the various chairmen of committees on the report. She thought £7OOO should be transferred to the electricity department's account. (Laughter.) The Mayor: You would have to get a seconder for any motion. (Laughter.) The report was adopted.
