4> DEATH WHILE RESCUING CRIPPLED SAILOR I'RINCE PRESENTS MEDAL TO WIDOW : r.U'ii.-ri ui'Ti'-iAi. v.ißi'.i.i; .s.i (Received April 22, 7.15 p.m.) RUGBY, April 20. The Prince of Wales distributed medals to lifcboatmen for outstanding exhibitions of courage and endurance: in rescue work. Recipients of the gold medal, which is the Victoria Cross of the service, included the widow of Robert Patton. coxswain of the Runswick lifeboat, in Yorkshire Patton died from injuries received during a violent storm while rescuing a crippled sailor who had been" unable to escape with the rest of the crew from the sinking steamer Dispenser. The sailor was clinging to the ship's deck rail and the lifeboat was swept over, crushaig Patton but he supported the crippled sailor until they were rescued, when lie collapsed. The Runswick lifeboat has been renamed the Robert Patton.
