MONDAY (Before Mr E. D. Mosley. S.M.i FINE OF £3 John Patrick O'Keefe was lined £3, In default imprisonment for 14 days, on a charge of casting offensive matter in a public place <a telephone boxj. He was fined 10s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, for drunkenness. On a charge of stealing a watch and chain, valued at £l. the property of David Evans, the accused was remanded by consent until April 5. VAGRANT IMPRISONED John Francis Magneil. a labourer, aged 49, pleaded not guilty to a charge that on March 25 he was deemed to be idle and disorderly, in that he habitually consorted with reputed thieves and other persons with no lawful visible means of support. A constable gave evidence of seeing i Magneil on many occasions in the I companv of persons of evil repute. , The accused said that he had been - working in the country before coming ! into Christchurch. WOMAN CHARGED Deborah Thompson pleaded not guilty to a charge of drunkenness and to alternate charges of being idle and disorderly. A police constable giving details of the accused woman's movements, alleged that she accosted men on many occasions, often in Latimer square. After hearing the accused, Mr Mosley sentenced her to imprisonment for 14 days on the charge of drunkenness, and to imprisonment for three months on the charge of consorting with reputed thieves and persons having no lawful visible means of support.
