Sir William Hunt arrived fioiri Wellington on Saturday. Professor J. Shelley arrived from Wellington on Saturday morning. Mr P. E. Miller, general manager of the Lister Separator Company (N.Z.), Ltd., left on the Niagara on a business: trip to Australia. Mr P. R. Climie, who has been in Wellington on Unemployment Board business, returned to Cnristchurcli by the steamer c::press yesterday. Messrs H. Holland, M.P., and J. A Gazette notice announces the appointment of Major-General Sir Andrew Russell to the National War Funds Council in place oi the late Mr E. 11. Williams. The Timaru Harbour Board carried a motion e.f enndoiee.ee with the relatives of the late S,r Arthur Dudley Dobson at its monthly meeting. The acting-chairman (Mr V-.*. T. Ritchie. l said thai Sir Arthur had taken an interest in the harbour, and although he had readied a great age his death would be a severe loss to tiie community. .Mr C. N. Thomas, who has been accountant of tiie Nelson branch of the National Bank of New Zealand Jor the: last seven years, lias received notice of promotion to the general manager's department, Wellington. Island, but will return to Wellington before he visits the Christchurch district. Mr Maekley was accompanied by Mr A. Wcllsted, the commercial manager. Mr David Carter, manager of the Union Steam Ship Co. at Auckland, who will retire at the end of next month, was born in Auckland in IGO'u. _ He joined the Union Company as a junior at Auckland on November 1, ICC3, and was transferred to West port in June. 1899, and subsection! ly to Christchurch in 1900. He was promoted chief clerk at Auckland two years later, and his next transfer was to Melbourne. He was appointed acting branch manager at Greymouth in 1906, and in 1918 wa.s appointed manager in Fiji, and served in a similar capacity at Newcastle New South Wales.* His appointment as manar/er at Auckland dates from March, 29, 1921. Mr C. B. A". Wheeler, who has been appointed general traffic manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, joined tiie company at Auckland in April, 1905. and was engaged for some years in the intercolonial and Island services of the company as purser. When war broke out Mr Wmcelcr joined tin and went on active servio" in 1015. He was wounded in action al the Sornme in 1916, returning to New Zealand in 19!,':.
