THE POWER AMALGAMATION SCHEME
I'UF linrOil OP TL'E ratsS. ■ Sir. For consummate cheek commend me to the North Island suggestion to amalgamate the three electricpower schemes so that the profit of £200.000 earned by the Lake Coleridge scheme may be handed over to the Mar.gahao and Waikaremoana schemes to_ assist to pay off their loss of £300,000. Not content with receiving a huge proportion of the Dominion highways money to make their roads, and receiving nearly £70.000 from our Provincial Council on the formation of the general government, with our tunnel thrown in. they now want us to pay for their power schemes: and with the present Government in power we have only Buckley's chances of preventing the transaction. !t is about time the North and South Islands were separately governed.—Yours, etc., AWAKE, canterbury: March -1. 1P34.
