♦ CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION ANNUAL MEETING OF DELEGATES - The fiity-Jifth annual meeting of Ihe Canterbury Rugby Union, held last night, was attended by delegates from nearly all the clubs in Canterbury. The president (Mr A. E. McPhail) was in the chair. The adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet was moved by the president, who said that the past yca^ - had been a very successful one, both on the field and financially, and he congratulated the representative team on its achievements. He regretted that Mr J. T. Bur rows would not be available to act as selector in the coming year. The spirit of the game had bc.cn well maintained, and there had been vecy few orderings ofl. A profit of £l(37ti was made, and although some might have supposed that the profit should have been larger, the cost of running the game in Canterbury was very high. The assistance given the clubs was more than iVOO and the finances of clubs had been affected by the economic depression. Therefore, he said, it might be necessary to conserve the funds to assist clubs again, so that the younger members particularly might be able to take part in the game. The motion was carried without discussion. Election of Oflieers The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr A. E. McFhail; vice-presidents, Messrs E. V. Phillips, J. K. The chairman explained that tlv > letter had been con.-idered at the last meeting of the committee, which could not see its way to take any action, and the letter was sent on to the annual meeting. Mr V. L, Jensen suggested that the union should withdraw its restriction on the plaving of former night class pupils. Hp did not think other clubwould be affected in any way.
