LAWN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
■\{) inr r.i>noß i r 'Jiib press. Sir.--An example of the haphazard manner in which the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association conducts its affairs is given in "The Press" this morning by "Cross-court.'' In the opening sentence of his article he stales: "Although when the entries closed on Monday comparatively small entries had been received for the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's annual championship tournament, which is to be held at Wilding Park on February 22, 23, and 24, the indications are that there will be' a fairly large and representative entry by 'the time Canterbury's dilatory p'lavers have filled in their entry forms and sent them to the secretary.' Surely it is time the governing body of Canterbury tennis decided to make an example of these "dilatory players' by refusing to accept their entries instead of pandering to them.—Yours, etc DEUCE. February 14, 1934. IMr R. Browning, secretary to the I Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association. 1 to whom this letter was referred, said that players could not be bound down too closely to a definite date for thenentries, as many could not know until after that time whether or not they would be able to play. The tournament was being held at one of the busiest times of the yea-, and many players had to make sacrifices to take part The success of the fixture, from the point of view of the players, the public, and the association, depended on the participation of those players.
