Byron Maurice Bartley appeared for sentence at the Supreme Court to-day before his Honour Mr Justice Ostler on a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge. His Honour, after discussing the circumstances of the case, said that he was prepared to grant probation. He agreed with what prisoner's counsel had said, that it was a trick of fate that had brought Bartley into his present position. The girl had approached him, and he might never have thought about her age, because she looked more than 16 years of age.
