A recent affray in Tinakorj road, in which batons and beer bottles were the weapons, had its sequel in ihe Magistrate's Court this morning, when Donald John McKenzie, 43, a bushman, was fined £3 for assaulting Constable G. G. Cleverley. One week's remand was granted in ,Ihc case of another defendant, Nelson McKnight, a plumber, who was charged with drunkenness and with assaulting and resisting Constable A. T. Cleverley. McKnight is still in hospital. Constable A. T. Cleverley gave evidence that he and his son, Constable G. Cleverley, the latter being in cricketing clothes, went to an office in Tinakori road, where there was a number of men, including McKenzie and McKnight. Witness was investigating a j disturbance that occurred earlier in '■ the evening outside an hotel. Both i constables described the affray. j McKenzie, in evidence, "denied throwing a bottle. i The magistrate said he was satisfied | from the police evidence that McKenzie had thrown a bottle, which had not made a direct hit, but had splin- ■ tered and injured the face of Con- j stable G. Cleverley. •
