PapprilO, and Josephine Ronga, domestic, ages! j 18 years, of Tuahiwi, and Muriel Irene Stanley, aged 21, both of whom were represented by Mr M. W. Simcs, appeared for sentence on charges of being idle and disorderly, in that they had insuflicient lawful visible means of support. The girls left the Salvation Army Home last week and gave themselves up to the police half an hour later. Mr Simcs said the girls had not attempted to evade the authorities. Ronga's behaviour while in the home had been comparatively good. Mr Papprill said Te Uhi had been in the home for four and a half months, and her reason for leaving was (hat she had been dissatisfied with the treatment she had received. The magistrate said he understood the home had been in a state of turmoil since the girls had been "there, and he would have to separate them. Ronga was sent back to the home to finish a term of 12 months, and Stanley and Te Uki were sentenced to detention in the Borstal Institution for 12 months. MAINTENANCE COURT (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) Clarence Henry Taylor was ordered to pay J2s Cd a week towards the maintenance of a child and £5 past maintenance. Gordon John Lack was ordered to pay 10s a week towards the maintenance of a near relative.
