CRICKET (iPCCIAL TO THE r*ES5.i GREYMOUTH, February 12. Weather conditions were ideal for the competition matches played yesterday. Playing at Kumara. in an A grade match, Marist gained a three-point victory ever Kumara. Kumara, in the first innings made 78, but the second innings was a collapse, the whole side being dismissed for 21, owing mainly to the splendid bowling ot Casey, five wickets for nine, Morris two for none, and Matthews three for eight. Marist in the first innings was all out for 62, but reached the required 37 runs for the loss of only one wicket in the second innings. Playing at the Recreation Ground, United secured a two-point victory over Cobden A by 69 runs on the first innings. Cobden batted first, and was dismissed for 105, W. Barlow 33, heading the score. Rapley took four wickets for 23 for United. In the first innings United made 174 (Nightingale 30, Restieaux 25, Rapley 21, an« Heasley 24). Knowles took six wickets for 50, bowling for Cobden. Playing at the Recreation Ground No. 2, Runanga secured a two-point victory over Stars by more than 100 runs on the first innings. Star made only 60 in the first innings, but was much more successful in the second innings, declaring with six wickets down for 209, Pascoe playing a brisk innings to score 103. Runanga compiled 166 in the first innings (Smithson 50 and J. Timlin 34) Runanga's second innings was uncompleted, eight wickets falling for 61. ! Playing at Cobden, Cobden B ; gained a first-innings (two-point) win ! over Brunncr.
