. » MAGISTRATE'S COURT Messrs W. C. Cleary and W. D. Gower, J's.P., presided at the Magistrate's Court on Saturday. Charles Munt, aged 22 years, a surveyor's chainman, pleaded guilty to a charge of stowing away in the Rangatira between Wellington and Lyttelton. Sergeant D. Wilson said that at 10 o'clock on Friday night, while the vessel was en route from Wellington to Lyttelton, a steward discovered Munt concealed beneath a pile of blankets in the steerage quarters. Munt stated that he had been, working in a relief camp in Taranaki when he heard that the Public Works Department was putting on men at 10s a day in Invercargill. He had walked most of the way to Wellington and intended to walk from Lyttelton to Invercargill. Accused was convicted and fined 10s and ordered to pay the amount of the steerage fare from Wellington, £l. He was allowed three months in which to find the money. Boat Harbour Berthage Fees In reference to the proposed new lay-out of pleasure-boat moorings at Lyttelton and the increase in mooring fees, which were adopted at the meeting of the Harbour Board on Wednesday, the following telegram has been forwarded to the chairman of the board, Mr W. G. Gallagher:— '•Lessees yacht berths enter an emphatic protest at the proposed new charges. All clubs agree to ask that the work shall not proceed till the board receives a deputation, comprising Messrs Collins, Brown, and Rhind, for the lessees, and Harris, president of the Yacht Association."
