MASTER GROCERS
HAW ERA CONFERENCE IrRESS ASSOCIATION IEI.EGHAM.) HAWERA, February 7. A number of remits were received at the annual conference of the Dominion Federation o£ Master Grocers to-day. Two remits from Auckland were approved. These were: "(1) That the conference strongly protests against the growth of Sunday trading, and would respectfully draw the attention of the Minister for Justice (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) to what it regards as a considerable laxity on the part of the Police Department in dealing with this growing evil."
"(2) That the conference urges upon the Government the desirability of amending the Shops and Offices Act, 1921, by substituting for the present interpretation of occupier the following: 'Occupier means a person or company owing a business, and in shops or offices occupied by a body of persons, corporate or unincorporate, the manager shall be deemed to be included in the term occupier, so long, however, as the term shall apply only to the manager in charge of the business and not to branch businesses associated therewith."'
