STRIKE WILL NOT BE CALLED DECISIONS OF CANTERBURY ORGANISATION 1 A decision not to call a strike of the unemployed workers in CanterBury was made at a meeting of the Council of Action last evening. According to a statement made aftsr the meeting, it was also decided to disband the council, which has been interested in the recent ballot for a strike, and to seek affiliation with the National Unemployed Workers' Movement.

It was stated after the meeting by an official, that members of the council had heard the report of Mr A. E. Armstrong, who was sent as a delegate to Wellington to investigate the actions taken for a strike there. It had been decided in Wellington to call the strike proposal off last Monday, except in Viose provinces where men were already striking. The letter stated that the organisation would immediately take steps to dissociate itself from the National Union of Unemployed, and to affiliate with the National Unemployed Workers' Movement. It was stated that reports had also been received from other bodies affiliated with the North Canterbury Provincial Council of Unemployed, that a similar move to change the national affiliation was taking place.
