GARDEN COMPETITIONS
A AND B CLASSES The judging of the gardens entered in the Canterbury Horticultural Society's competitions in the A and B classes was completed yesterday. As these are district competitions the results will not be available for several days, as the judges have to collaborate and compare their findings in order to arrive at their final awards in the competitions over the whole district. The gardens entered in A class are such as are not more than a quarter of an acre in extent, on which no outside labour is employed; those in B class are not restricted as to area, but the labour employed is limited to one man not more than two days in any one week. In both classes, the garden area must comprise the whole allotment on which the competitor resides and not a subdivision of it. The result of the jedging in the C class gardens (no limit to area or to amount of labour employed) already has been announced. The C class gardens are included in the district competition. BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION'S COMPETITION The efforts of the Christchurch Beautifying Association to find the garden that gives most beauty to a city or suburban street have resulted in nominations being received for gardens in Shirley, Linwood, Ricarton, St. Albans, Cashmere, Strowan, Papanui, and Bcckenham. The most entries from any suburb are from Papanui, this being probably due to a local beautifying association. Professor Shelley will judge the gardens this week and his decision will be announced early next weeK.
