UPPER RICCARTON BURGESSES
The first meeting this year of the Upper Riccarton and Sockburn Burgesses' Association was held last night, Mr H. Purvis presiding. The town clerk of the Riccarton. Borough Council wrote stating that no land was available from the 5 per cent reserves for use as a recreation ground. The council would receive about five acres when the trotting ground was apportioned. It was decided to leave the matter in abeyance until this land became available.
The general manager of the Christchurch Tramways wrote stating that the association's request for a more frequent service to Church corner was still being considered by the works and traffic committee.
11 was reported that the district, representative on the Tramway Board (MrG. T.Thurston) was desirous of addressing the association on tramway matters, more especially in relation to its request to have a more frequent service to Church corner, and it was agreed to give him the opportunity of addressing a meeting of ratepayers. A letter was received from the. Spreydon Burgesses' Association asking for support for a resolution urging that the Christchurch City Council should convert its municipal and drainage loans to a much lower rate of interest. The honorary secretary (Mr F. J. Collins) reported that a conference was to be held on the matter, attended by Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., and representatives of the burgesses' associations. It was agreed to support the resolution and MrK. E. Bigg was nominated to represent the association at tbt conference.
