ASHLEY COUNTY COUNCIL

At the monthly meeting of the Ashley County Council ;it. Loburn there were present Messrs H. T. Metherell (chairman i. Maelcod. Mackintosh, McCracken, Philpott, and Pulley. The chairman and Mr Pulley were , asked to report to next, meeting on! the collecting of dog registration fees. Mr T. Dawson's tender was accepted for the grazing lease of the council's field. Action was deferred pending the obtaining of particulars. The report and recommendations of Messrs Macleod and Pulley on the council's reserves were adopted. The collection of the 1931-32 arrears of rates, together with costs, was put into the hands of the solicitor. The clerk reported that there had been guaranteed requests for 550 tons of limestone during the first year, and as members were of opinion that pressure of harvest prevented many ratepayers from replying to the circular forwarded, it. was decided to give another month for this purpose. Following complaints that gor.se was over-growing on a side road off the highway, the clerk was instructed to issue a final warning to clear. Following a discussion on flood repairs, the council asked Mr Philpott to inspect the Bullock Creek ford, and the chairman to inspect the Kowhai ford. Both were cut out by recent floods. The chairman also said that the lower Grey river was now encroaching on road land and would need protective work. Cases were discursed in which danger would arise through the operation of the road grader on its wrong side, and it was decided to place a red flag at corners while .such work was proceeding, and also to consult the inspector about the risk. The clerk reported that the statutory date for the addition of the 10 petcent, penalty would be February 28.
