CHRISTMAS CHEER

HELP FOR DISTRESSED FAMILIES ROTARY CLUE'S APPEAL To ensure that deserving families in distressed circumstances shall not go without some assistance to brighten their lives at Christmas the Christchurch Rotary Club, as in past years, is organising an appeal on their behalf with the object of providing 1000 hampers for distribution in the city and suburbs. Already the arrangements are well in train and the members of the club are looking forward with confidence to a response on the part of the public of Christchurch as liberal as that of past years. Reports from social workers indicate that the necessity for the appeal is as great as it ever has been. The first part of the appeal will be the concert in the grounds of the Christchurch Hospital on Sunday, December 17, in which all the bands of the city and members of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society will take part. The street collection is to be made on Friday, December 22, and upon its results, and those of the concert in the hospital grounds, will depend whether the objective of the Rotary Club is attained—looo hampers for 1000 homes.

Already several regular supporters of the appeal have sent in their donations, those received yesterday being from T. J. Edmonds, Ltd., and from Fletcher, Humphreys and Co., Ltd.
