ENGINEER OF "THE PRESS"
- ■ ■■ RETIREMENT OF MR C. J. PETERSEN Members of the staff of "The Press"' gathered in the old literary room yesterday afternoon to make a presentation and to say farewell to Mr C. J. Petersen, the company's engineer, who has retired on superannuation after a service of 40 years. Mr A. M. Burns, manager of the Christchurch Press Company, Ltd., who made the presentation, consisting of a wallet of notes, said that Mr Petersen's years with the company had been of a kind which spelt loyalty and service, and he had always been regarded as one of the stalwarts of the company's staff. He could assure Mr Petersen that in his retirement he had the goodwill and best wishes of every other employee. Mr A. R. Cant, the accountant, who has had the longest service with the company, spoke of the happy relations which had always existed between Mr Petersen and other members of the staff. He wished him a long and happv retirement. Mr P. H. N. Freeth, editor of "The Press," congratulated Mr Petersen on his long service, and he also wished him happiness in his retirement. Mr Petersen thanked the members of the staff for their gift. He expressed his thanks also to the directors and management and wished them every prosperity. His, he said, was one of the oldest links in the chain of the company's service, and he feared the link was much worn. He spoke of his lifetime of work for the company as having been happy, and he was grateful, he said, for the courteous treatment he had at all times received from the directors and from members of all branches of the staff.
