MAHAKIPAWA COMPANY HALF-YEARLY REPORT The report of the directors of Mahakipawa Goldfields, Ltd., for the half-year ended June 30 is as follows: The statement of accounts discloses that for the period ol six months, 570 ounces of gold were won, and in respect of this quantity, £3OOO 12s 4cl has been paid to the company by the bank, and a further £912 is estimated to be due for premiums. The result of the half-year's operations discloses a loss of £606 4s 6d. It will be seen from the accounts that the operating expenses at the mine have been kept down to a minimum during the six months. The gold won averaged approximately 95 ounces a month for the period. The ground has been very patchy, and the results obtained have not been up to the expectations we had in March. A geophysical survey was made by the Mines Department of the whole field north of the shaft, in an endeavour to trace the run of the lead. At present we are unable to say whether the results are of a definite nature or not. We are now extending a drive northeast to reach a position indicated by the survey as being likely to contain wash. The equipment at the mine is in good operating condition, although we had trouble with one of the pump motors earlier in the year. Our electrical power costs are very high, and your board has discussed the matter with the power board, to see if the charges could be reduced. We are sorry to say, however, that we have been unable to effect any reduction. Following are the working account and the profit and loss account: — JOSE WORKING ACCOUNT. (Six MfiutllS.) i s. I.
