RICHMOND AFFAIRS

ANNUAL INSPECTION OF DISTRICT The report of the district inspection made by representa 'v:s of the Christchurch City Council and *he association was received by the Richmond Burgesses' Association at its meeting last evening. Crs. J. W. Beanland (chairman of works committee) and J. S. Barnelt and Mr A. R. Galj braith (City Engincc ) represented the i council al the inspection, and Messrs j Richardson, Buist, Denton, McArthur, and Kowe represented the association. Cr. Beanland, ic was reported, promised to bring the condition of the river Avon bank by River road at Templar street before the notice of the Drainage Board. It was complained that there were outlets for three drains in this portion of the bank, which was crumbling, and was in an untidy condition. The council promised to place screenings on the footway in Glade avenue provided the association was successful in getting the residents to erect new fences on their sections. The association was promised that the plan concerning tne removal of the dilapidated hedge and fencing, and rounding off the corner of Vogel street and Stanmorc road, would be considered. Mr Richardson informed Cr. Beanland that the council's offer of £1 a foot frontage for Mr Petrie's property in Slanmore road would now be accepted by the owner. Cr. Beanland replied that the council's present offer would not exceed 10s a foot. The association asked that the fish tail at the intersection of Petrie street and Shirley road be tar-sealed, and the engineer reported that this had previously been requested and the request had been approved by the works committee. The tar-sealing of the bus turning place at the corner of Stapleton's road ana Shirley road had been authorised by the works committee. The danger of the practice of motorists cutting the corner at North Avon road and McLeod street was brought before the councillors' notice, with the suggestion that it could be prevented by moving the telegraph pole seven feet further back. It was reported that this would be done.
