Y.M.C.A. QUEEN CARNIVAL
GARDEN FAIR. IN CALEDONIAN HALL "What, another Fair'.'' is a general exclamation when fairs are mentioned these days, but with their usual determination to make Young Men's Christian Association's functions an outstanding success, the Queen Carnival committee is planning something really unusual for its Garden Fair, to be held in the Caledonian Hall on Wednesday and Thursday, November 1 and 2. Mr Maurice Denham outlined his plan of decoration last evening, and by coloured diagrams showed how the hall would be transformed into an enchanting Pardon. The committee expressed warm approval of the plan and also thanked Mr L. T. K. Allison for his original idea of the Garden Fair. Stalls were allocated and allotted in the hall. A special working-bee will be held on Tuesday, October 24, when flowers would be made. The monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Town Planning Institute of New Zealand will be held in the City Council Chambers to-mor-row night. Accommodation for firemen to dress in their uniform inside the tender, to save time, is provided in a new fire engine designed and built by the men of the Exeter City Fire Brigade.
