BUSINESS MEN'S CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING HELB MR H. B. DUCKWORTH ELECTED PRESIDENT
The second annual meeting of the Christchurch Business Men's Club was held yesterday, Mr Alan J. Wills pre. siding over a large attendance. Mr p" B. Duckworth was elected preside-* for the coming year and Mr P. O'Connell vice-president. The chairman remarked that in its two years of existence the club, which had been formed with the sole object of bringing business executives closer together and making the;n better known to one another, had certainly achieved its purpose. The member ship had increased wonderfully, par " ticularly in the last year, and'there were now 113 members. During the year 22 luncheon meetings had been held, at which' interesting talks had been given both by club members and by distinguished men of the city including professors, doctors, editors' solicitors, manufacturers, engineers! auctioneers, and managers. * "As retiring president," said Ur Wills, "I wish to thank on your behalf our secretary (Mr V. G. Spiller), who has taken a keen interest in the 'Welfare of the club. Our treasurer (Mr D. V. Wilson) also has been a tower of strength, and these two members deserve our warmest gratitude. To each member of the executive I also wish to extend on your behalf and my own our sincere thanks for their wholehearted support." Mr Wills also thanked the honorary solicitor (Mr W. J. Hunter), and the honorary auditor (Mr E. R. Caygim for their services, and offered Mr D V. Wilson the club's best wishes on the eve of his trip to Australia. In accordance with notice Mr Wilson moved that the number of vice-presi-dents be reduced from three to one and the motion was carried unanimously. The following officers were elected - President, Mr H. B. Duckworth; vicepresident, Mr P. O'Connell; secretary Mr V. G. Spiller; treasurer, Mr D. v' Wilson; executive, Messrs C. W. Chanv pion, T. H. Munro, H. J. Otley, C E Jones, and Alan J, Wills; honorary solicitor. Mr W. J. Hunter; honorary auditor, Mr E. R. Caygill. ' Mr Duckworth then took the chair and moved a vote of thanks to the retiring president and vice-presidents and the press. He introduced Use speaker for the meeting, Mr J. Mawson Stewart, whose address was entitled "A Toast to Women." At the conciusion Mr C. E. Jones congratulated Mr Stewart on his speech and both speak, ers were thanked by the president.
