LINWOOD TROOPS' FIELD DAY INTERESTING DEMONSTRATION The value of the various phases ol boy scout and girl guide work was shown at Linwood Park on Saturday afternoon, when the field day of the Linwood scouts and guides was held, 'jiaere was a good muster, the scout troops represented being Linwood, New Brighton, North Beach, Spreydon, Kaiapoi, Merivale, Linwood Rovers, and three packs of cubs. The girl guides were represented by Linwood, Burwood, Avonside, East Belt, and Merivale. The scouts were under the charge of Group Scoutmaster Mcintosh and Scoutmaster Francis. Guide Lieutenant Good being in command of the guides. Commissioner J. W. Crampton was present and following the flag-break and the march past, he briefly addressed tne scouts and guides, complimenting them on their appearance and the size of the muster. He paid a tribute to the Linwood troop for the work it had done, especially the rovers, and hoped that their work would be an example to others. Miss Morton, of the girl guides, also complimented the troops and expressed the hope that the afternoon would be pleasant and successful, and that it would prove beneficial to those taking part. The troops then dispersed to take part in the various competitions which had been arranged, and it was there that the spectator saw the value of the work that the scouts and guides were taught. The first-aid and ambulance were things that should be known to everyone, and a knowledge of cooking would never go amiss.
