JAPANESE AND INDIAN TRADE
O TEMPORARY EXTENSION OF CONVENTION (B:UT1 = H OFFiCIAL WIRELESS.) (Received October 10, 7.10 p.m.) RUGBY, October 9. A temporary extension of the trade convention between India and Japan, which expires on Tuesday, was effected by an exchange of notes between Sir John Simon and the Japanese Ambassador in London. The arrangement provides that the convention shall remain in force for a month from October 10. Meanwhile customs duties on goods at present imported into either country from the other country shall remain at the present level. If an agreement affecting commercial relations is not concluded by November 10 an arrangement on the lines proposed shall be extended for a reasonable period on terms arranged by co-operation between representatives of the Governments now engaged in discussing the new commercial agreement.
