RADIO FOR AERODROMES
$ —__ SHORT-WAVE SETS MAY BE INSTALLED (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) NEW PLYMOUTH, September 9. Short-wave wireless apparatus is to be installed at several aerodromes in New Zealand, according to advice received this morning by Mr S. E. Nielson, secretary to the New Zealand Aero Club. The club had set up a technical sub-committee, and after a report application was made for a wave-length. The reply of Mr G. McNamara (secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department) allots 2720 kilocycles, approximately 110 metres. Mr McNamara further states that permission is granted as a temporary expedient. It is understood, however, that the Government merely reserves the right to withdraw permission ri the system conflicts with the general telegraph and toll communication oi the Dominion. The first installations will be al Auckland, New Plymouth, Hawera ; Wanganui, Hastings, Masterton, Wellington, Blenheim, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill. Mr Nielson states that the main purpose of the installations is for urgenl weather reports, emergency flights anc tracing the progress of a pilot who has not arrived at his destination in t reasonable time, and also to assist ir the general training of pupil pilots
