DRAPERS' TOURNAMENT BALLANTYNES V- BEATHS The assistants -played their annual hockey tournament on Saturday at Hagley Park, before a large attendaiico of supporters. The women played first, and after a good exhibition the match resulted in a win for Beaths, the score being Beaths 3, Ballantynes '2. Kefcrees: Messrs J. Almond and E. Rogers. For the men's match the teams were:— Ballantynes: P. Velvin (captain), i\ Bellamy, J. riannigan, W. Ramsay, F. Hitchins, J. Weir, W. Gilchrist, D. Bacon, K. Enright, W. Sexton, and L. Evans. Beaths: 11. Luxton (captain), li. Tinker, A. Bailey, H. Gray, M. Ward, J. Labudde, G. Duncan, S. Vaughan, 11.I 1 . Miller, D. Dunlop, and J. Howman. P. Velvin. the captain of Ballantynes side, is n former representative of Canterbury, Uu;o, and Hawktt'g ■ Bay, while
Boaths captain, H. Luxton, was formerly ono of Canterbury's best goalkeepers. From the initial bully Ballantynes set up a hot attack, but Bailey sent his forwards away with a long: clearance from a melee in the circle. Duncan scored with a weak shot, the ball just trickling past Bellamy. Beaths 1, Ballantynes 0. Bcaths continued to control the play, and from a roll in Vaughan registered a good goal. Beaths 2, Ballantynes 0. Led by Velvin, Ballantynes returned play to Beaths twenty-five. A shot at goal was diverted by Luxton, and Beaths cleared a penalty corner. Half-time came without further score. Ballantynes rushed to the attack as the second spoil opened, but Howman cleared from the circle. Beaths set up a hot at--1 tack, but Bellamy, playing brilliantly, cleared with a good kick. Shortly afterwards, however, Vaughan scored with a push shot. Beaths 3, Ballantynes 0. Now it was Ballantynes turn, and L. Evans, after a good run on the wing, scored from the edge of the circle. Beaths J, Ballantynes 1. Encouraged by this success Ballantynes pressed hard and only good defence by Tinker und Bailey kept them out. Eventually Velvin scored with a beautiful shot) that beat Luxton easily.
