* BOY'S DEATH FALL FROM A TREE A fall from a tree upon which his kite had caught led to the death yesterday of Colin Innes, aged 11, son of Mr A. H. Innes, of 314 Stanmore road, Richmond. The boy was flying his kite in company with other boys in Richmond Park late on Saturday morning, when the kite caught in the branches of a high tree. Innes climbed the tree to release the kite, and was about 20 feet from the ground when he fell. He was taken immediately to the Christchurch. Public Hospital, and was found to have injured a shoulder. Then his condition was not serious. Later, however, he became worse, and died yesterday morning at about 11.50. An inquest was opened last night before the coroner, Mr E. D. Mosley, at the hospital, and after evidence of identification was heard, the hearing was adjourned sine die. Constable M. Gibson, Richmond, represented the police. CAR OVERTURNS ONE OCCUPANT KILLED (PP.BSS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.) INVERCARGILL, September 10. Kenneth Lumsden, a single man, aged 24, of Invercargill, was killed while motoring home from a suburb with two companions late last evening. It appears that when the car was negotiating the new river ferry bridge, a few miles from Invercargill, the steering gear failed, and the car crashed into the bridge and overturned, pinning Lumsden. He received spinal injuries from which he died shortly after admission to the hospital. MOTOR-CYCLIST INJURED AT TEMUKA A young man, Stuart Preddy, who resides at Epworth, Temuka, was seriously injured on Saturday through the wheel of his side-car coming off whilst he was riding his motor-cycle along Kakahu road. Mr Clarence Lyon, who was driving a horse and dray, discovered Preddy staggering along the road in a semi-conscious condition, and took him home. Dr. F. A. Scannell was summoned and i-t was found that Preddy was suffering from a fracture of the base of the skull and dislocation of the outer end of the left collarbone. The motor-cycle and side-car, with the wheel off, was found later about half a mile from where Preddy was picked up. HAND LACERATED While using a circular saw on his farm at Milford road, Temuka. Mr Duncan Taylor severely lacerated the two middle fingers of his right hand. A piece of wood got jammed at the far end of the bench and in trying to remove it his hand came into contact with the saw. He was attended to by Dr. F. A. Scannell. CYCLIST INJURED A middle-aged cyclist, Richard White, skidded while riding along Wordsworth street at about 8 o'clock on Saturday evening, and fell, fracLuring his right leg. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, and yesterday was stated to be making satisfactory progress. MAN BELIEVED DROWNED (rSESS ASSOCIATION TBLEGBAM.) AUCKLAND, September 10. , An unsuccessful search was made ■ o-day for Robert Roberts, a married \ nan, who disappeared from a dinghy n St. Mary's Bay, Ponsonby, on Frilay night.
