METHODIST CHURCH.

EAST CHRISTCHURCH CIRCUIT. The Rev. E. Drake presided over the quarterly meeting of the. East Christchurch Methodist Circuit. The Rev. F. Greenwood presented the membership returns, showing a senior membership of 694 and junior of 298. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mr Asher, who had been secretary of the trust and a leader in the Richmond Church. The financial statement was presented by Mr H. W. Armitage, circuit steward, showing total receipts amounting to £328 lis 6d and expenditure amounting to £316 Is. leaving a credit balance of £l2 10s 6d. The Sunday school report, which was presented by Mr S. Harrington, showed a total of 841 pupils, being an increase of 35, and 96 teachers. The "Methodist Times" report, giving a total of 62 subscribers, was presented by Mr J. B. Weir, circuit agent. Mr W. Chas. Francis stated that the Linwood Church had a section in Kerr's road on which they intended to have a Sunday school built shortly and at which services would be held. Owing to the fact that the Rev. F. Greenwood, of the Linwood Church, had given notice that he intended to retire as from the next conference, it was decided to extend an invitation to the Rev. E. B. Chambers at the next quarterly meeting.
