RUNAWAY AIRMEN.

J ARGUMENT WITH OFFICIALS. | (Received July 16, 9.15 p.m.) j NEW YORK, July 15. j Stephen Darius and Stanley i Girenas, Lithuanian Americans from Chicago, took off from Floyd Bennett airport at 5.24 a.m. to-day on a 4900-mile flight to Lithuania. They had been arguing with officials at Washington about permits to fly over the countries between the United States and Lithuania, and had left without obtaining these permits. The argument centred about the question of who should pay the 100 dollars for cables to the countries in question. The airmen took off without informing the airport officials of their intention. An official of the Commerce Department in Washington said: "If they should land in some country on the way it would not only be embarrassing to the American Government, but would make the airmen subject to a spanking by that country." A message from St. Johns (Newfoundland) says that the Lithuanians passed; over Trinity Bay at 1.45 p.m. (Eastern standard time).
